It all started with Karl, a beautiful purple-and-blue betta who loved to dive.
He lived a great life, but we can't help but wonder, could it have been better, could he have dove longer? With a background in healthcare medical informatics, we set out to build a system that could advise us on the tank, its condition, and its suitability for the fish and plants living in it. A few years later, we have Chomper: the product we wished we had when we had Karl.

Track heater recovery to setpoint, daytime spikes (like sun exposure), seasonal room swings, post-water-change stabilization time, and nighttime dips that may indicate heater relay cycling issues.
Watch long-term TDS rise from dissolved waste, validate whether each water change creates a consistent drop, confirm dosing and supplement spikes return to baseline, and detect feeding, ATO, leak, or overflow effects on concentration.
Measure evaporation rate across seasons, verify auto-top-off timing and thresholds, flag sustained unexpected drops that suggest leaks, and learn when top-offs versus water changes usually happen based on recurring level patterns.

Chomper combines readings from a suite of sensors with AI and multivariate time-series analysis to turn complex tank conditions into clear insights, timely alerts, and practical suggestions.
Each device consists of two parts: an internal tank unit and an external display unit. They attach magnetically on opposite sides of the aquarium wall, with the external unit powering the internal sensors wirelessly—so there are no ugly wires draped over your tank.
Developed entirely in-house and built from hundreds of electronic components, Chomper transmits measurements through the aquarium wall to the processor mounted outside the tank. From there, it wirelessly delivers status updates and suggestions to your phone or computer.
